World Savings Day is celebrated on October 30. The idea dates back to the 1924 International Savings Bank Congress. Despite inflation and the rising cost of living, saving remains a cornerstone of financial planning. It is important to keep money aside for emergencies, choose a suitable savings or investment option, and compare interest rates. A survey of more than 4,800 people in Germany found that only 35% had a specific savings or investment plan. Nevertheless, Germany’s savings rate reached 18.9% in 2025, compared with an EU average of 14.3%, and people in Germany save around €270 per month on average.
