Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said that Western efforts to confront Russia are becoming increasingly aggressive as Moscow, in his words, approaches victory in its military operation. He warned that people seeking to dismantle the Russian state from within were being recruited and funded. Speaking at the opening of the International Week of the Peoples of Russia, Shoigu attributed his country’s strength to its economic sovereignty, military capabilities, the unity of its people and their confidence in the country’s leadership. He described the West as an environment in which the worst vices flourish, arguing that human rights and freedoms there had become tools for destroying society and spreading impunity.
