Toyota shares jumped more than 16%, their biggest one-day gain since 1987, after the company raised its annual operating profit forecast by 15% to 3.9 trillion yen. The upgrade came amid record demand for hybrid cars and a weak yen: profit for the quarter ended in September rose 34% to 1.13 trillion yen, marking the first increase in six quarters. Despite falling sales in China and the Middle East, these factors offset the decline and strengthened the company’s outlook for the fiscal year ending in March 2027.
