Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received a call from U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday. They discussed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between Washington and Tehran. Both sides affirmed Qatar’s efforts to bridge differences and support negotiations toward a comprehensive agreement, while the Emir stressed the importance of dialogue and protecting freedom of maritime navigation and the security of energy supplies. The call comes as attention turns to the next steps by the United States after Republicans lost their majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
