The Iranian army announced that its air defenses had shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone over Qeshm Island in the south of the country early Saturday, as part of its integrated air defense network. The announcement coincided with reports of explosions on Qeshm and in Bandar Khamir, though their causes remained unclear. The incident comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
