A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern coast of the Philippines off the island of Mindanao at a depth of 35 kilometers, prompting warnings of potential tsunamis with heights reaching two to three meters along Filipino shores. Additionally, tsunami warnings were issued for Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Taiwan. Japan also issued a tsunami alert for its Pacific coast and urged residents to stay away from the beaches.
