Windy conditions may uncover new habitable planets
Astronomers have succeeded in detecting extremely fast winds on seven giant exoplanets outside our solar system, reaching speeds of up to 25,000 km/h, using telescopes in Chile and Hawaii. The study shows that the hottest planets had slower winds, which contradicts expectations, and this is attributed to the presence of strong magnetic fields that influence the atmosphere and reduce wind speeds. This discovery opens the door to a better understanding of conditions conducive to life on other planets by studying the impact of magnetic fields on planetary atmospheres.
