Sudan conflict endangers 30 million historical documents
The National Archives in Khartoum suffered extensive damage due to fighting and the occupation of Rapid Support Forces personnel. The building was affected by fire, destruction, and damage from shelling. More than 30 million historical documents dating back to 1505 are now at risk. Although they survived the fires, the deteriorating conditions threaten the safety of the archive, especially with the rainy season approaching. The Archives are currently being prepared for a digital transformation plan to safeguard the documents. The government is also striving to retain the Archives at its current location despite logistical challenges.
