India's migrant expulsion campaign worries Muslims
The government of West Bengal state in India, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, launched a campaign to track and deport Bangladeshi migrants, sparking human rights concerns over potential targeting based on religion and religious identities. The campaign involved the establishment of detention centers and widespread arrests, with approximately 4,800 people deported since May, and more than 800 still awaiting removal. The operation has raised increasing fears of repeating past experiences and worsening relations with Bangladesh, amid concerns about violations of law and human rights.
