FIFA clarifies Swiss penalty details
FIFA officially confirmed the validity of Switzerland's penalty against Qatar in the 2026 World Cup match, despite the controversy sparked by the referee's decision and the absence of the nearly automatic offside visual aid due to a technical malfunction. The penalty was awarded after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review and resulted in a goal for Switzerland's Embolo, though doubts remained due to the lack of comprehensive visual evidence. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Qatar achieving a historic equalizer thanks to a late goal from Khouri.
