Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree-law aimed at amending the general elections law, with the goal of enhancing political participation and expanding democratic representation. The modifications include increasing the number of members of the Legislative Council to 200, lowering the threshold for winning seats to 1%, and raising the minimum number of candidates per list to 20, with the condition that at least one woman must be present among every three candidates. Additionally, the candidate age requirement has been reduced from 28 to 23 years to allow greater involvement of the youth in the elections. It is expected that a presidential decree will be issued to hold the Legislative Council elections concurrently with the Palestinian National Council elections.
