A total of 181 people have died and 782 others have been infected with the Ebola virus in the Congo, with cases continuing to rise since the outbreak was confirmed on May 15. The current outbreak is focused mainly on Ituri Province, which accounts for over 90% of the cases, and has spread to other provinces, reaching across borders into Uganda. The "Bundibjjo" virus is considered a new cause of the outbreak, and there is no approved vaccine or treatment for it. Contact tracing remains difficult due to widespread displacement and ongoing movement of workers in the mineral-rich region.
