Starbucks closes South Korea store due to marketing error

Starbucks Korea announced the early closure of all its branches on June 22nd to conduct mandatory employee training, following a promotional campaign that sparked widespread outrage due to its connection to the 1980 Gwangju Massacre. This led to popular and political backlash as well as revenue losses. The crisis resulted from an insensitive marketing campaign that undermined public trust, and the training will cover topics related to Korean history and sensitive social issues, along with measures to improve oversight of future campaigns. This closure marks the first time since Starbucks entered the Korean market in 1999, reflecting the company's seriousness in addressing the crisis and improving its marketing strategies.
