The Canadian government is preparing to impose retaliatory tariffs ranging from 15% to 50% on hundreds of American goods starting tomorrow, in an attempt to strengthen its negotiating position against Washington after trade talks between the two countries stalled. The measures will include increasing tariffs on American steel products to 50%, as well as imposing duties on consumer goods such as motorcycles, cosmetics, and cheese. This move comes in response to the United States imposing a 50% tariff on Canadian goods valued at approximately $20 billion in August, and aims to counter those measures while enhancing Canada's bargaining position.
