Japan is planning to utilize the "REPO" mechanism at the Federal Reserve to support the yen and protect the U.S. bond market, aiming to avoid significant sales of its U.S. Treasury holdings that could disrupt the bond market. This tool allows central banks to obtain dollar liquidity against collateral of Treasury bonds without having to sell them outright, thereby reducing pressure on the bond market and helping to maintain stability in the currency and financial markets. The Japanese government has confirmed its intention to rely on this mechanism in the future, a move that received support from the U.S. Treasury Secretary, who emphasized that it is an important tool for ensuring financial market stability.
