China donates lunar sample to UN headquarters
China aimed to promote international cooperation in space by gifting a lunar sample to the United Nations. The sample was brought back by the Chang'e-6 probe from the far side of the Moon, away from Earth, in 2024. This is the first of its kind to be collected from the Moon's far side, demonstrating China's commitment to supporting the UN's efforts in peace, development, and the improved management of outer space. The sample is permanently displayed at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, symbolizing Beijing's support for peaceful initiatives and expanding humanity's benefits from space resources.
