China is preparing to welcome its first foreign astronaut aboard the Tiangong space station. A Pakistani astronaut has been selected to serve as a payload specialist on the Shenzhou-24 mission, in a move to strengthen space cooperation between the two countries. The astronaut’s name has not yet been announced: two Pakistani candidates have passed the selection process, and one will be chosen for the mission while the other serves as a backup. The astronaut is expected to spend a short time in orbit before returning to Earth aboard Shenzhou-23.
