The Iraqi Ministry of Oil has begun drilling its first exploratory well in the northern provinces since 1978, in the town of Amirli, Salah al-Din Province. This step is part of Iraq's efforts to bolster its oil and gas reserves and to revive exploration activities after decades of suspension, through a tripartite agreement between North Oil Company, the Iraqi Drilling Company, and the Oil Exploration Company. The project aims to increase hydrocarbon reserves and support the future capabilities of domestic production.
