The Lebanese government has begun implementing the tax law on profits from "Sirefa" banking platform operations, as the Central Bank of Lebanon handed over the beneficiary database. This paves the way to collect approximately $50 million in taxes on the profits individuals and companies made from buying and selling dollars at higher prices. The tax applies only to profits from transactions exceeding $100,000, at a rate of 17%, and includes major beneficiaries who carried out significant financial operations during the exchange rate crisis. This step will enable the recovery of some of the funds earned by groups through illegitimate profits and help strengthen tax justice in the country.
