Researchers find new spying method via storage units

Researchers from Graz University of Technology in Austria have discovered a security vulnerability that allows spying on websites and applications visited on Mac computers using solid-state drives (SSDs). The flaw, dubbed "Frost," relies on measuring the response times of SSDs through JavaScript in the browser. It has an accuracy of up to 89% in tracking websites and 96% in tracking applications. The vulnerability is triggered when visiting a malicious site and results in creating a large file on the disk, which can be exploited to access all stored data, posing a significant threat to user data security and privacy.
