According to data from the Federal Statistical Office in Germany, the number of people acquiring German citizenship last year reached 332,500, marking the highest figure in the country's history, with a 14% increase compared to the previous year. Syrians remained the largest group of naturalized citizens for the fifth consecutive year, accounting for one in every five new citizens from Syria, despite a 21% decrease compared to 2024. The data highlighted that the reforms introduced to the citizenship law in June 2024, which reduced the required residence period to five years and made it easier to retain dual citizenship, were a major factor behind the increase. After Syrians, the second-largest group was Turks, with 34,100 individuals, followed by Russians with 19,700. Notable increases were also observed among other nationalities such as Bosnians, Americans, and Albanians. Additionally, there was a 61% rise in the number of naturalizations granted under laws reintroducing citizenship, reaching 12,000 people.
