A Dutch court has sentenced a 58-year-old Syrian man, who was the head of the interrogation unit in the "National Defense" in Saraqib between 2013 and 2014, to prison for crimes related to torture and rape committed during the Syrian civil war. The court charged the man with 19 crimes against humanity involving eight victims, including torture, sexual assault, threats against victims, physical abuse using various tools, beating, electric shocks, forcing some victims to strip, and detained him on Dutch territory since 2021. This is the first time in the Netherlands that a person has been tried for sexual violence as a crime against humanity.
