Ethiopia and Eritrea sever diplomatic relations

Ethiopia and Eritrea have severed diplomatic relations amid escalating conflict in northern Ethiopia, with both countries expelling each other's diplomats. The two nations' tensions intensified following fighting that has resulted in over 50 deaths since last week, as Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of supporting rebel groups fighting its government. The deterioration in relations comes after Ethiopia closed its embassy in Eritrea, while Eritrea responded by cutting off ties, amid fears of wider regional instability.
