Trump admin redirects funds from human rights

The U.S. State Department redirected nearly $177 million from the Democracy Funds to support far-right causes, including efforts to promote Western values, oppose censorship, and address migration issues in Europe and other countries. Several grants aimed at Brazil, South Africa, and Nigeria were approved despite congressional holds, reflecting a shift away from traditional human rights toward ideological challenges. The funds have faced criticism for bypassing Congress and supporting projects aligned with the previous administration’s broader ideological agenda.
