Cornell case sparks sex law debate

Legislators and advocates are pushing to amend New York's rape laws to better protect victims who voluntarily become intoxicated before an assault, amid recent allegations involving Cornell University. Supporters argue current laws make it difficult to prosecute cases where victims were incapacitated due to their own substance use, while opponents caution that changing laws could lead to injustices. The effort follows public scrutiny of recent misconduct allegations and investigations into how authorities handle these cases.
