Carrie features bloody prom with social media horror

A new eight-episode series adaptation of Stephen King's "Carrie," streaming on Prime Video, reimagines the story of a high school girl with telekinetic powers amid modern challenges like social media and active shooter drills. Unlike previous versions, this Carrie is depicted as curious, kind, and eager to explore the outside world for the first time, with her upbringing in a sheltered, cult-like environment influencing her character. The show also portrays Carrie’s mother, Margaret, as driven by ferocious love rather than hatred, with the series inspired by contemporary issues such as online harassment and social media's impact on youth. Renowned horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan crafted the series to be relevant for today's society, drawing from real-life cases of online harassment and personal experiences, with Stephen King expressing approval of the adaptation.
