NYC councilwoman criticizes Mamdani on Heritage Month post

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Italian Heritage Month tribute to a former congressman with ties to the Communist Party drew criticism from Queens Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, who accused Mamdani of promoting communist propaganda. Paladino condemned Mamdani's invocation of his Italian heritage, emphasizing her family's military service and immigrant history to contrast his stance. The controversy centered on Mamdani’s support for Vito Marcantonio, a figure with a controversial background during the Cold War.
