Newsom and Schwarzenegger meet, Californians face issues
California's AB 32 cap-and-trade program, celebrated for its 20th anniversary, has failed to significantly impact the climate or reduce emissions, as wildfires have offset previous gains. Despite its limited effectiveness, California officials, including Gavin Newsom and Arnold Schwarzenegger, continue to promote it, partly to enhance political images amid upcoming elections. The policy is viewed as a symbolic gesture that makes life in the state more expensive without delivering meaningful environmental benefits.
