Mercedes and Al-Lenser ignite women's conflict with Al-Awadi
The statement by artist Ahmed Al-Awadi about his past relationships sparked widespread controversy surrounding the concept of objectifying women. He compared his relationships to car models such as Mitsubishi, Mercedes, and Lancer, which was interpreted as diminishing the value of women and viewing them as objects measured by their status and material features. This led to public outrage, especially among women, and Al-Awadi later apologized, affirming his respect for Yasmine Abdel Aziz, with whom he had a more well-known relationship. The crisis highlights how using metaphors that link women to cars reflects a culture of objectification, particularly when women are seen based on preference and social ranking. This has raised criticisms regarding how men perceive and treat women in the public sphere. Despite the apology, the image created by these statements continues to fuel ongoing discussions about how men talk about women and the social impact of such narratives.
