Study: New drug may treat severe respiratory syndrome

Initial trial results have shown that the experimental targeted drug against Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) reduces the duration of mechanical ventilation and lowers blood inflammation levels. Patients who received the antibody "ALT-100" required an average of seven days on a ventilator, compared to 14 days for those who received a placebo. The study involved 15 patients, and the drug was developed by "Aqualung Therapeutics" with support from the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Researchers are now seeking to conduct larger trials to further assess its efficacy and safety.
