IMF Loans May Enforce Reforms in Iraq

The article points out that Iraq's reliance on International Monetary Fund loans may require it to implement strict financial and economic reforms, such as tightening government spending, improving revenues, and reducing the deficit, despite the government facing issues like corruption, waste, and weak non-oil revenues. The expert considers that these conditions could help achieve necessary reforms, especially since the loans are disbursed in installments tied to the implementation of specific reform phases. This approach might give the government an opportunity to carry out measures that previously faced political opposition, provided that these reforms lead to addressing financial imbalances and reducing waste rather than accumulating more debt.
