El Salvador: Court Sets Election Date

The Supreme Court of El Salvador officially announced the date of the presidential elections scheduled for February 28, 2027. President Nayib Bukele aims to win a third term after a constitutional amendment allowed him to run multiple times. The election will include the selection of 582 positions, including the president and vice presidents, as well as members of parliament. These elections come amid political and legal controversy surrounding the constitutional amendments that permit Bukele to run again, which has sparked criticism from opponents and experts who consider it a departure from the spirit of the constitution. The court is committed to organizing the elections legally and transparently, emphasizing neutrality and adherence to the constitution.
