Lacroix Warns of Security Gap as UNIFIL Ends

As the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon approaches the end of its term, officials warn that the departure of the mission could create a significant security vacuum in southern Lebanon, especially amid ongoing challenges such as military activities, poor road conditions, explosive threats, movement restrictions, and the incomplete deployment of the Lebanese Army in the area. Reports confirm that UNIFIL has played a vital role for decades in monitoring the situation, facilitating the delivery of aid, assisting in reopening roads, and reducing explosive risks. This underscores the urgent need for continued international support for the Lebanese Army and security institutions to prevent escalating security tensions in the region.
