ICC reveals arrest warrants for Taliban education ministers

The International Criminal Court revealed a decision to declassify two arrest warrants targeting the Afghan Minister of Education and the Minister of Higher Education in the Taliban government. These warrants, issued in September 2025, had remained confidential until now. This move reflects criminal charges against Taliban officials for committing crimes against humanity, particularly gender-based persecution. The movement has targeted girls and women from its seizure of power in August 2021 through January 2025. Despite the issuance of the arrest warrants, the lack of enforcement power by the court remains an obstacle to apprehending the suspects, especially given Taliban's control over the country.
