Parliament debates electoral law impasse

The article discusses the ongoing political debate surrounding Lebanon's electoral law. The Subcommittee of Parliament, headed by Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab, has resumed deliberations on legal proposals, including suggestions for establishing a Senate. It appears that there is a clear divergence among lawmakers regarding priorities, with many forces believing that the current time calls for focusing on implementing the existing law and undertaking necessary reforms, rather than pursuing a new electoral law amid the current circumstances. The discussion also centered on the feasibility of applying the current law, with calls for modifications, while refusing to attribute any "conspiracy" to opposition groups. It seems that the session did not reach an agreement, and there is a tendency to postpone fundamental changes until after resolving the issue of keeping weapons out of the state's hands, viewing this as a key step toward stability of security and sovereignty.
