WHO Unable to Fully Assess Russia Plague Reports

The World Health Organization has stated that it is unable to conduct a full risk assessment related to the reports of plague in Russia because it has not received the full picture regarding the death of a laboratory assistant in Irkutsk who is suspected of having contracted plague. The organization called on Moscow to provide more information after a laboratory worker died from severe pneumonia, with reports suggesting she may have been exposed to pneumonic plague as a result of an accidental incident. The WHO is awaiting an official response from Russia to clarify the reasons for the infection and to confirm whether the case is indeed related to plague.
