Lebanon Added to IMEC List

The inclusion of the ports of Beirut and Tripoli into the "Economic Passage Ports Club between India, the Middle East, and Europe" (IMEC) in October 2026 indicates that Lebanon is approaching the use of its geographical position to bolster its economic role in the region. The project, launched during the G20 summit in New Delhi in 2023, aims to create an integrated network of maritime transport, railways, electricity, and digital communications, strengthening exchanges between Asia, the Gulf, and Europe. Although Lebanon was not among the founding members, high-level diplomatic efforts— including the visit of the French envoy to Beirut— helped pave the way for its inclusion, enhancing the Lebanese ports' status as regional logistics and trade hubs. This is an important step toward reactivating Lebanon's economic and geopolitical role, contingent upon infrastructure reforms and increased security and sovereignty confidence.
