Southernia Seeks Security Council Review of Resolution 2790
Lebanese MPs submitted a legal memorandum to the United Nations calling for a review of Resolution 2790 (2025) concerning UNIFIL, based on significant changes in the on-the-ground and political realities in southern Lebanon. The memorandum, which builds upon a national note signed by 86 MPs, affirms that the conditions under which the resolution was adopted have evolved, necessitating an adjustment in its implementation mechanism to ensure full Lebanese sovereignty, address security gaps, and enable the state to restore its authority through its national institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army. This move reflects widespread national consensus, demonstrating a firm commitment to international legitimacy. It also urges the international community to reassess the role of UNIFIL in light of these developments, in a broader effort to strengthen Lebanon’s stability and protect its southern borders.
