China and North Korea inaugurate new bridge after 12 years

This week, the new Yalu River Bridge connecting China and North Korea was inaugurated after 12 years of construction, aimed at facilitating trade movement between the two countries. The bridge, which is 3,026 meters long and was completed in 2014, features four lanes and replaces the former China-Korea Friendship Bridge. Its goal is to strengthen economic cooperation, especially following the resumption of train services between Beijing and Pyongyang after a six-year halt caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bridge is an important step in deepening relations between the two nations, particularly since China is North Korea's largest trading partner. It is currently used for transporting goods and commodities between the countries, although its capacity to carry passengers remains limited.
