Istanbul faces new risk as soil saturation increases

Murad Shahin, former Director of the Meteorological Authority in Izmir, issued a warning about the potential occurrence of a natural disaster due to heavy rainfall on water-saturated soil in Turkey. He indicated that the arrival of rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters per square meter, combined with previous rains, could lead to widespread floods and torrents, especially in the Marmara, Aegean, and western Mediterranean coastal areas. He also warned that the rainy weather could continue for two to three days, with the possibility of heavy rainfall repeating, which would increase the risk of human and material losses. He called on officials and citizens to take emergency measures and precautionary steps.
