Israeli elections see intense exchanges

In the last two weeks of the Israeli elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his rival Gadi Eisenkot exchanged accusations and sharp remarks regarding government management and security events, particularly the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Netanyahu accuses Eisenkot of being responsible for enabling Hamas in Gaza and not taking proactive measures against it, while Eisenkot denies these claims and affirms that he supported all the security decisions made by the government. Additionally, Netanyahu faces a defamation lawsuit and is suspected of failing to warn about threats prior to the attack. Meanwhile, official documents and government legislation reveal discrepancies in policies toward Hamas and the occupation of Gaza, amidst internal and external criticisms of his security policies.
