U.S. Court Finds Gebran Bassil Involved in Fraud

The publication has lost its significance through an American court ruling against Lebanese MP Gebran Bassil and other individuals, obliging them to pay $35 million to spouses Lara and Elie Samaha, on charges of torture, fraud, and conspiracy in an attempt to strip them of their claims in the United States. The court considered Bassil responsible for luring and forcibly detaining them to torture them, despite Bassil denying any involvement and stating that previous Lebanese judgments had acquitted him. The ruling includes financial compensation and confirms the defendants' liability for a plan to lure the couple from Florida to Lebanon for the purpose of illegal torture and detention.
