French protesters clash with police using baguettes

The violent protests in France, involving around 550,000 people from the "Yellow Vests and Students" movement, led to widespread clashes. Police used tear gas and water cannons and arrested about 400 individuals, resulting in injuries among law enforcement officers. Protesters, some dressed in black and wearing masks, symbolically threw baguettes at police during demonstrations that were sparked by rising living costs and government policies. Acts of violence included arson of offices and explosions, one of which caused a protester in Saint-Étienne to lose his hand. French President Macron called for calm amid these developments. The protests have also spread to other European cities, with escalations leading to store closures, metro station shutdowns, and injuries among police officers. These protests have been ongoing in France for over five weeks, with widespread public pressure on the government.
