Manchester City Soccer Club faces the possibility of monetary and legal sanctions after being convicted by an independent committee of violating financial regulations between 2009 and 2018, through the use of fake commercial contracts to inflate revenues and hide expenses exceeding 900 million pounds sterling. The club's chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, has held diplomatic immunity since 2020 as a recognized member of the UAE embassy in London, which could complicate legal proceedings against him. The implications of the case may go beyond sports sanctions, as the Football Regulatory Authority or the UK's Fraud Office may intervene, especially if account falsification or economic crimes are confirmed. The club denies any wrongdoing.
