Gulf Cup final referees include fifth foreign official

The final of the 27th Gulf Cup witnessed the management of an international referee not from the Gulf for the fifth time in the tournament's history. The Gulf Football Association entrusted non-member referees, led by Moroccan Jihad Jaid, to officiate this match. This is the fifth edition where a referee from outside the Gulf region has overseen the final, which is played between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The tournament, held every two years and dating back to 1970, aims to determine the champion of the 2023 edition. Previously, external referees have included officials from Slovakia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Romania. Meanwhile, many past finals have been officiated by referees from within the Gulf region, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar.
