FIFA Denies Spain Appeal After Egypt Match
The appeal committee at the International Federation of Football (FIFA) has rejected the Spanish Football Federation's appeal regarding the penalty imposed on the Spanish national team after a friendly match against Egypt on March 31 in Barcelona, which ended in a goalless draw. The sanction included a fine of $20,000 and the closure of 15% of the stadium’s capacity during Spain’s first home friendly match, due to anti-Muslim chants from Spanish supporters. The Spanish Federation stated that it took immediate measures to prevent such chants from happening again, including increasing security and informing relevant authorities. However, it considered the penalty too harsh compared to previous rulings and plans to appeal it before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
