Real Madrid requests English clubs to pay Super Cup costs

Real Madrid is seeking to require six English clubs to pay approximately 80 million euros (around 90 million dollars) to cover the costs of establishing the European Super League project, despite their official withdrawal from the competition that was announced in April 2021 and which faced widespread criticism. Madrid believes that these clubs remain committed to contributing based on agreements made prior to the announcement of the tournament, and that these expenses include costs related to promoting the competition. The amount owed by each club has not yet been determined, nor have there been any legal proceedings initiated to recover these costs. There is an ongoing legal dispute over whether the commitments include the clubs' participation in the startup expenses after their withdrawal.
