Google cuts free plans in Gemini expands AI Pro

The article focused on Google's revisions to the distribution system for AI models within the Gemini application starting October 9, 2025. Under this plan, the free tier will be limited to the Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite model, and certain user categories will lose access to older or higher-level models. Subscription lines such as Google AI Plus will be affected, with options reduced to include only specific models, while AI Pro and AI Ultra plans will retain more extensive features. Additionally, the advanced thinking mode "Deep Think" will be expanded to include AI Pro plan users for the first time, aimed at handling more complex issues using greater computational power, with new control levels for thinking effort set to low, medium, and high. Google also introduced new models (Gemini 3.8 Flash) to enhance AI capabilities in programming and is restructuring model tiers based on computational strength—part of a broader effort to phase out older models and provide users with more control over model capacities and resource allocation for each request.
