Africa's First Board Member Group Formed

On Thursday, September 24th, the first core of the African Institute for Board Members was announced. This structure includes five countries: Algeria, Mali, Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia. Its goal is to promote the application of international standards for governance, responsibility, and sustainability within financial institutions, banks, and companies listed on African stock exchanges. The initiative has also seen a significant increase in the representation of women on boards—from about four women five years ago to more than thirty today—thanks to training and capacity-building in governance. Officials emphasized the need to establish legal foundations to improve governance in the Tunisian financial market, drawing from both African and European experiences, to enhance transparency and social and environmental responsibility. Since 2023, Tunisia has collaborated with the International Finance Corporation to develop a pool of professional trainers in governance standards, aiming to enact more effective laws and improve the performance of institutions in social and environmental responsibility.
