Guterres urges lasting Gaza peace
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, stated that he is calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, and for the completion of the second phase of the conflict resolution plan before the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack. He emphasized that the time has come for a sustainable halt to bloodshed and for the broad entry of humanitarian aid, while also advocating for the development of a political pathway toward lasting peace in the region. Guterres expressed regret over the hundreds of thousands of victims and the destruction of 90% of Gaza’s buildings, stressing the need to end the suffering of Palestinian civilians and to achieve a future in which Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security.
